Dry Casting Report September 2003

 | | |
There is a first time for everything. This day was my first official day as the Club Dry Casting Officer at the "September"
dry casting which had been brought on early to leave Father's Day free.
I arrived at Yokine just before 7:00 am to be greeted by Bob Hendo and Terry Willison setting up the distance court. Actually
it was almost completely done, as was the positioning of the guide ropes for the accuracy events. The tape was strung out
for the double handed event and it was up to me to pull the number out of the hat for the distances. So done, Bob and I
placed the markers.
For the information of all casters, this will be the system in future as well. If you wish to participate, I will make
available the selection procedure to any one willing to be present prior to 7:00 am on the day of casting.
The weather just couldn't have been better, apart from that damn easterly wind.
9 Seniors, 8 Veterans, a Lady and a Junior kicked off with the seniors on double handed accuracy and vets on distance.
In the seniors, Aubs showed the way with George pushing hard. I was looking for a sample jar to drug test Aubs, as
his score was magnificent. Whatever he was on, I could do with it as well. J Well done mate.
Not to be outdone, Vix set the standard with her single handed accuracy. She has increased her previous Ladies Club
Record by a massive 9 points to 36/40. That time spent in Yamba has sure helped her along as her double handed
accuracy was excellent as well.
What can I say about the distances. 40 knots of headwind DON'T make for good distance casting. Some of the casters
had problems staying in court. Our little skinny club court is just a tad harder to stay in compared to the national
and state wide court.
This month I utilised two radios and a 3rd scorer for the distance section of the day. What did you think. Did you prefer to HEAR your distances as you wound in, or would you prefer to wait until it was over to see your results? Let me know so I can formalise it.
As a novelty event sometime in the new year, I propose an 'open' competition in both 56 gram distance and possibly
one double handed accuracy target, utilising "ONE" rod to be used by all competitors at each area. ie: one 'fishing' rod
at, say a 45 metre target (two casts to count), whereby everyone uses that same rod in turn, and likewise, one 'fishing'
rod at the distance court where everyone uses that one rod for two 56 gram casts (no 'V' court to apply). With a little
luck, a sponsor might be able to be located to put forward a small prize.
Let me know your thoughts please. Until next month. TT2 (Tele Tubby 2) - DCO
