The Surf Casting and Angling Club of W.A. (Inc.) was formed in 1952 and is one of the oldest existing fishing clubs in Western
Australia. The club has produced many State and National champions in all categories of competition.
Experienced Club members welcome the opportunity to teach people fishing and dry casting and increase the skills of fellow members.
We invite members of the public to contact us about joining us as visitors to our events to learn about fishing and casting. (Some conditions apply, please contact us for details.)
Our charter is to promote club recreational fishing, dry casting, competition, fun and fellowship, and to compete in both club and state competitions.
Our fishing is from the shore - surf fishing, beach fishing, rock fishing, rock wall fishing, reef fishing, jetty fishing, estuary fishing, etc. Families are encouraged to participate in all club events.
Each month a different venue is selected for the weekend fishing field days. This offers the opportunity to learn about new fishing locations in Western Australia, some, but not all of which, are only accessible by four wheel drive vehicles.
Shared vehicles can be organized for each fishing trip, especially where four wheel drive vehicles are required. This allows people without four wheel drive vehicles to join in the excitement of the fishing in good fishing spots.
Fishing competitions have sections for Mini Juniors (under 12 years), Juniors (12 - 16 years) and Seniors. We actively promote and encourage Fishing for the Future and Catch and Release fishing.
Dry Casting competitions have sections for Mini Juniors, Juniors, Senior Men, Veterans (men over 55 years) and Women.
Club Activities.
Fishing Field days - are usually held on the weekend following the general meeting. Locations for the fishing field days range from Kalbarri in the north to Esperance on the south coast and include Rottnest, plus all points in between. Usually the field days further from Perth are held over a long weekend. A local field day is held each month for members who are unable to attend the trip away.
Dry Casting is instruction and competition in distance casting and accuracy casting on a grassed area and is usually conducted on the first Sunday morning of each month. It is an important activity in the development of casting skills used when fishing anywhere.
General Meetings - are held on the second Wednesday of each month. We have an instruction period covering a wide range of subjects including fishing techniques, preparations for the next fishing trip, fishing tackle, fishing rigs, etc. The management committee meets monthly and reports directly to the general meeting.
Safari - Once each year, the club selects a location, usually a good distance from Perth, for a fishing "Safari" of about one week's duration. Members on these trips learn a great deal and develop their fishing skills. Safaris are a great way to get to know fellow club members.
Social Events - the club conducts social activities during the year, culminating in June with the annual dinner and trophy presentation night.
